Abstract
Pure 2-methyl-5-nitroimidazol-1-yl-acetaldehyde was synthesized by mod ified Swern oxidation. This compound can be utilized as reaction inter mediate in the synthesis of bioreductive agents (e.g., hypoxic cell ra diosensitizers, antibiotics against anaerobic organisms).
