Abstract
We derive a master equation describing an atom trap coupled to an exte rnal reservoir of Bose atoms, allowing evaporative cooling and repopul ation. The equilibrium state (a grand canonical ensemble), may exhibit Bose condensation, in which case the atom number statistics depend st rongly on the atom-atom interactions.
