Abstract
We studied the dependence of the maximum tunneling current on external magnetic field for large area Josephson junctions with overlap bounda ry conditions. We used direct numerical solutions and developed a spli t Fourier mode method to study the electromagnetic behavior. The stead y-state pattern consists of two terms, the first of which satisfies th e in-line-like bias current boundary conditions and has zero fluxon co ntent. The second is treated in a mode expansion in the y direction an d only two terms are sufficient to reproduce the direct solution of th e two-dimensional junction for widths up to 2 tau times the Josephson characteristic length.
