Ya. Volozh et al., STRATIGRAPHY OF MESOZOIC-CENOZOIC DEPOSITS IN THE SALT-DOME BASIN OF THE PERI-CASPIAN DEPRESSION, Stratigraphy and geological correlation, 4(4), 1996, pp. 409-415
Unique natural structures, the secondary (compensated) basins, with th
ick Mesozoic-Cenozoic suprasalt deposits were considered in the salt d
ome Pericaspian depression. The place of anomalous basins in the halok
inetic development of the depression was defined, and specific aspects
of their identification, types, and zoning were described. A litholog
ic-facial analysis and comparative analysis of rock thickness and sedi
mentation rate in secondary basins and standard sections were performe
d. It was concluded that anomalous basins are of particular significan
ce for solving stratigraphic problems of the suprasalt sequence of the
Pericasplan depression.
