Abstract
Grasping a knowledge of geography can be an exciting experience for ch ildren when it is developed by reading picture books. Many children's books depict the content of the National Geography Standards. This art icle reviews the standard's six essential elements and demonstrates ho w children's books can be used to teach geography. Each element and a particular standard are applied to a specific picture book. Incorporat ing a book may be the first step or the last step of a geography lesso n, but either way it will bring about various activities to help stude nts iasl step of a geography lesson, but either way it will bring abou t various activities to help students relate to their world, learn abo ut different cultures and regions, and experience Earth's physical pro cesses.
