Wj. Watson et al., EMBOLIC STROKE IN A PREGNANT PATIENT WITH A MECHANICAL HEART-VALVE ONOPTIMAL HEPARIN-THERAPY, American journal of perinatology, 13(6), 1996, pp. 371-372
A 28-year-old woman with a mechanical aortic heart valve experienced a
n embolic stroke in early pregnancy after her anticoagulation therapy
was changed from warfarin to heparin. This occurred despite use of a s
ubcutaneous heparin infusion pump and optimal anticoagulation. Thrombo
embolism can occur in pregnant patients with mechanical heart valves d
espite optimal heparin therapy.
