Abstract
The X-ray crystal structure of the title material has been determined. The molecule possesses one O-C-C-O unit with an unusual trans geometr y. The mean interplanar separation between the aromatic rings is 4.93 Angstrom and the interplanar angle is 90.40(20)degrees. The structure is compared with that found for related systems capable of catenation.
