Abstract
The problem of the Meissner effect in the exotic anyon superconductor is rediscussed from the point of view of the spontaneous breaking of s ymmetry and the Higgs mechanism idea. It is shown that the inclusion o f electromagnetic interactions leads to the typical Higgs mechanism on ly in the case of the two-dimensional Coulomb interaction. The qualita tive difference between anyon superconductivity - where the Meissner e ffect and the Higgs mechanism are independent - and ordinary BCS super conductivity is underlined.
