This paper describes a high-speed charge-coupled device (CCD) camera t
hat has been developed for commercial, industrial, and scientific appl
ications. It uses a 1024-line progressive scan imager with two video o
utput channels. The dual-channel outputs provide a rotal darn rate of
40 million pixels/sec, using ''square pixel'' sampling. The camera inc
orporates electronic shuttering triggered by an external source, so th
at the exposure period and frame rate can be precisely controlled. The
camera features high linearity, low noise, wide dynamic range, and lo
w shading. An early prototype of this camera was used by Fox News, Inc
., to digitize film news-reels for the Fox Movietone project.
