A model for homogeneous-heterogeneous reactions in boundary-layer flow
treated in a previous paper, is extended to include the effects of lo
ss of autocatalyst, represented by the dimensionless parameter phi. So
lutions valid near the leading edge are obtained and extended by numer
ical solutions of the full equations. These reveal that there is a cri
tical value phi(c) of phi, which depends on the other parameters in th
e system. For phi less than or equal to phi(c), the homogeneous reacti
on becomes the dominant effect away from the leading edge with a thin
reaction zone, Located at large distances from the surface, developing
. For phi > phi, the reaction dies out, with the surface reaction bein
g the dominant mechanism throughout. Asymptotic solutions valid for la
rge x in both cases, phi less than or equal to phi and phi > phi(c), a
re obtained.
