G. Chavepeyer et al., PHASE-SEPARATION IN NONEQUILIBRIUM CONDITIONS INVOLVING STRONG THERMAL CONSTRAINTS AND LARGE ASPECT RATIOS, Journal of non-equilibrium thermodynamics, 21(2), 1996, pp. 122-128
Phase separation experiments in nonequilibrium conditions (under a tem
perature gradient) are reported for nitrobenzene-alkane systems with a
n upper consolute point. Two stable phases are observed in every case
provided that a cold temperature point exists below the critical tempe
rature, whatever the hot temperature may be. For the nitrobenzene-deca
ne system, temperatures up to 140 degrees C are considered while for n
itrobenzene-hexane, aspect ratios, length to height, up to 60 are inve
stigated. At the higher temperature difference, tilted liquid-liquid i
nterfaces are observed.
