The role of quenching conditions on the formation of nanocrystals duri
ng crystallization of amorphous Fe73.5Nb3Cu1Si13.5B9 is investigated.
Different quenching rates have been applied to the melt by varying the
wheel surface velocity in the planar flow casting process. Magnetic a
nd mechanical properties of as-quenched samples are strongly influence
d by quenching conditions. The phase transformation induced by anneali
ng of the various samples leads to similar microstructure and comparab
le initial magnetic permeability and fracture strain. The role of init
ial strain and structural relaxation processes on final properties of
the samples is briefly discussed.
