The effects of aging temperature on the doping reaction of thermally a
ged polyaniline have been studied. The behavior of the reaction was an
alyzed with respect to the concentration of sulfuric acid solution, th
e temperature of the solution and the dipping time. Samples prepared b
y casting were heated at 90 similar to 170 degrees C and then dipped i
nto aqueous solutions of H2SO4. The degree of protonation was characte
rized by the peak height of 1150 cm(-1) absorption band formed in dopi
ng reactions. The results obtained indicate that the protonation has t
wo steps. At first, some kinds of hindrances protecting imines should
be removed at a certain proton concentration and/or dipping times. In
the second step, protonated imines are formed in a thermally activated
reaction.
