G. Lasfargues et al., RELATIONS AMONG NIGHT WORK, DIETARY HABITS, BIOLOGICAL MEASURES, AND HEALTH-STATUS, International journal of behavioral medicine, 3(2), 1996, pp. 123-134
A cross-sectional study was conducted to investigate dietary intake, b
ehavioral habits, and clinical and metabolic differences in night work
ers compared to day workers and to evaluate the metabolic differences
associated with diet and body habitus that occur between these two gro
ups. Dietary habits, biological parameters, and health status were col
lected in 1,200 night workers and in an equal number of day workers, m
atched for gender, age, and socioeconomic status. Our findings demonst
rated that night workers had poorer dietary habits and metabolic profi
les compared to day workers with a similar overall health status. Thes
e differences were associated with a higher prevalence of some cardiov
ascular risk factors such as smoking and obesity.
