Abstract
In this article, similarities are identified between multicultural cou nseling competencies and the basic assumptions and methodology of qual itative research. Having an understanding of one's own biases, assumpt ions, and worldviews; possessing knowledge and understanding of the cu lturally different client's (participant's) worldview; and using appro priate strategies and skills are characteristics that are shared by mu lticultural counseling and qualitative research. These characteristics are addressed under aspects of qualitative research, namely, selectio n of the research question; researcher as instrument; relationship bet ween researcher and participants; and data collection, analysis, and v alidity.
