rategies for increasing the probability of successful counseling. Such
strategies include careful assessment of the client, matching the cli
ent and counselor on demographic and attitudinal variables, and mainta
ining a productive working alliance through open disclosure to the cli
ent of the counselor's background and procedures, inquiry into the cli
ent's experience of counseling process, and management of client resis
tance.
