The biology of parasitic copepods on marine fishes from Senegal has be
en the subject of a current research programme. Several species were c
ollected. This first faunal and morphological account reports on the s
pecies of the genus Lernanthropus de Blainville, 1822 which is common
in marine waters of Senegal. Fourteen species are recorded. Two new sp
ecies are described: Lernanthropus senegalensis and L. toguebayei foun
d on the gills of Brachydeuterus auritus (Pomadasyidae) and Galeoides
decadactylus (Polynemidae), respectively. Descriptions were made by us
ing light and scanning electron microscopy.
