Mj. Stewart et Pj. Ellery, AMOUNT OF PSYCHOLOGICAL STRESS REPORTED BY HIGH-SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL OFFICIALS, Perceptual and motor skills, 83(1), 1996, pp. 337-338
All volleyball officials registered with a state high school activitie
s association in a midwestern state were surveyed at the end of the vo
lleyball season to assess their self-reported, psychological stress. O
f 470 officials contacted, 353 (75%) responded by filling out a simple
5-point rating scale. The mean raring of stress was 2.3 (SD=.6) (betw
een ''very little'' and ''a moderate amount'') which is similar to pas
t findings for certified, amateur baseball and softball umpires.
