G. Barcenas et al., COMPARISON OF THE HUMORAL IMMUNE-RESPONSES OF PIGS WITH ATROPHIC RHINITIS AND PIGS VACCINATED WITH BORDETELLA-BRONCHISEPTICA, Indian Veterinary Journal, 73(8), 1996, pp. 818-821
Atrophic Rhinitis (AR) is a chronic respiratory disease of swine which
has been associated with growth retardation (Backstorm et al., 1982;
Goodnow at al., 1978; Pedersen and Barford, 1981). Two microorganisms
are involved in the etiology of this disease, Pasteurella multocida se
rotype D (de Jong et al., 1980; Rutter and McKenzie, 1984), and Bordet
ella bronchiseptica (Switzer, 1956; Brassinne et al., 1976; Kobisch, 1
984). Previous studies have demonstrated the importance of a 68 Kd ant
igen from B. bronchiseptica in inducing immune protection to this micr
oorganism in mice (Montaraz et al., 1985) and experimentally infected
pigs (Novotny et al., 1985; Kobisch and Novotny, 1990). To look into t
his aspect further, the present study was aimed at comparing the humor
al immune responses of pigs naturally affected with AR, and pigs vacci
nated with a commercial B. bronchiseptica/P. multocida baderin by mean
s of immunoblot technique.
