Acanthosis nigricans (Distrophia papillaris et pigmentosa) was first d
escribed in dogs by Schindelka (1908). An idiopathic dermatitis charac
terised by progressive hyperpigmentation, alopecia and lichnefication
seen mainly in Dachshund breed of dog. Lesions were bilaterally symmet
rical commencing from axillae spreading to proximal limbs, ventral abd
omen, neck and inguinal areas (Muller and Kirk, 1976; Jubb et al., 198
5; Scott and Walton, 1985). Three cases encountered in the study are r
eported here.
