Ak. Sharma et al., CONCURRENT CHLAMYDIAL AND VERMINOUS PNEUMONIA IN A BARKING DEER (MUNPIACUS MUNTZAK), Indian Veterinary Journal, 73(8), 1996, pp. 876-878
Pneumonia continues to be a major problem accounting for the high morb
idity and mortality among livestock owing to its multifactorial etiolo
gy and several factors which contribute to the susceptibility of the a
nimal (Jubb et al., 1985; Radostits et al., 1994). Among these etiolog
ic agents, Chlamydia psittaci and lung worms are the important agents
causing pneumonia in livestock either independently or concurrently (S
troz, 1971; Poynter and Selway, 1986). The present communication repor
ts a case of concurrent chlamydial and verminous pneumonia in a Barkin
g deer, (Munnpiacus muntzak), observed during routine postmortem exami
nation. A careful scrutiny of; literature indicates dearth of reports
in India.
