The interrelation of the kinetic theory and non-equilibrium thermodyna
mics is discussed. A procedure for deriving the boundary conditions fo
r slightly rarefied gases is outlined. The entropy productions from th
e processes associated with the non-uniform gas flow in channels with
mobile walls and with the presence of an arbitrary geometric particle
in non-uniform fluid are found. Using the entropy productions, the phe
nomenological equations are obtained. New phenomena predicted on the b
asis of these equations, and their experimental testing are discussed.
