Abstract
In a continuation of phytochemical studies on the underground organs o f Liriope spicata var. prolifera, four new steroidal glycosides, lirio proliosides A-D, along with two known compounds, 25(S)-ruscogenin beta -D-xylopyranosyl(1-->3)]-beta-D-fucopyranoside and ophiopogonin A, wer e identified. The structures of lirioproliosides A-D were established by a combination of spectroscopic and chemical methods as 25(S)-ruscog enin eta-D-fucopyranoside-3-O-alpha-L-rhamnopyranoside, 25(S)-ruscogen in a-L-rhamnopyranosyl(1-->2)]-beta-D-fucopyranoside, 25(S)-ruscogenin ha-L-rhamnopyranosyl(1-->2)]-beta-D-fucopyranoside and ruscogenin a-L -rhamnopyranosyl(1-->2)]-beta-D-fucopyranoside, respectively. Among th ese steroidal glycosides, ophiopogonin A and lirioprolioside B, and li rioproliosides C and D, were isolated as epimeric pairs. Copyright (C) 1996 Elsevier Science Ltd
