SEMICLASSICAL TREATMENT OF ELECTRONS IN QUANTUM WIRES

For linear quantum wires, we show that the two-dimensional Thomas-Ferm i approximation provides excellent agreement with more elaborate Poiss on-Schrodinger calculations. Further we show that the Shikin density p rofile gives a very accurate though approximate analytic solution to t he Thomas-Fermi equations. Copyright (C) 1996 Elsevier Science Ltd.
