In this work, the formation of Al13Cr2 intermetallic phase during high
-fluence, high-temperature implantation with Cr ions is reported. It i
s also shown that it is possible to form the same phase by implantatio
n at lower temperatures, with low fluence, provided that it is followe
d by a proper annealing. The phase formed is crystalline and it is emb
edded in the surrounding aluminum matrix.
