Abstract
We show that the solution of the heat equation in a cylinder with a po lygonal basis belongs to an anisotropic weighted space. Then we approx imate the solution of this problem by reducing it to a boundary integr al equation. Owing to the obtained regularity, we get an optimal order of convergence using an anisotropic mesh (uniform in time and refitte d in space; see [1] for elliptic problems).
