The highly productive thermo- and acidotolerant ethanol-assimilating s
train VSB-896 of Candida krusei, capable of growth at 40 degrees C and
pH 3.5, was obtained as a result of the process of the autoselection
of spontaneous and induced mutants on the basis of such parameters as
enhanced growth rate and thermo- and acidotolerance. The mutagen N-nit
rosomethylurea proved to be efficient in increasing the mutation frequ
ency with regard to these characteristics. Optimization of the microel
ement composition of the nutrient medium with respect to the contents
of Cu2+, Mo6+, B3+, and Co2+ resulted in a decrease in the K-s value.
