Teichoic acids from the cell wall of Actinomadura maclura INA 000 18 (
=ATCC 19425)(T) were studied. The isolated teichoic acids displayed an
unusual structure and were composed of glycosyl-1-->2-glycerol phosph
ate units in which glycerol C(S)-atoms and glycosyl C(6)-atoms were bo
und by a phosphodiester bond. The glycosyl residue was galactose or 3-
O-methylgalactose (madurose).
