Abstract
The X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) satellite spectra of the O 1s levels of SrTiO3, BaBiO3 and LiNbO3 have been recorded. A detailed analysis of the satellite structures has been performed. The satellite s are caused by shake processes and plasmon excitations. The different satellite lines can be assigned to distinct electronic transitions an d plasmon excitations. The connection between the optical loss functio n F{-1/epsilon} and th XPS loss structure is examined. It turns out th at the optical function can be determined by XPS measurements. A compa rison with other methods is given.
