Abstract
New water-soluble fullerene carboxylic acids (1 and 2) derived from C- 60 and C-70 fullerenes, respectively, were examined for photocytotoxic ity toward Raji cells (B lymphocyte). These compounds did not show any photocytotoxic effect even at 50 mu M, while pheophorbide alpha showe d significant photocytotoxicity at 0.5 mu M. Therefore, fullerene deri vatives derived from C-60 and C-70 would not be practical agents for p hotodynamic therapy.
