Thermophysical properties of the polysulfone-PET blends with different
content of PET were studied by differential scanning calorimetry. Gla
ss transition temperature of polysulfone was shown to decrease with in
creasing the content of PET in the polymer blend to 15 wt %. In this c
oncentration range, melting temperature of PET was found to decrease w
ith decreasing the content of PET in the PET-polysulfone blend. Variat
ions in glass transition temperatures of polysulfone were well describ
ed by the Foks equation developed for compatible polymers, whereas var
iations in melting temperatures were described by the Nishi-Wang equat
ion for polymer blends with the negative miscibility parameter. Experi
mental DSC and electron-microscopic data attested the development of a
homogeneous amorphous phase in the polymer blends containing less tha
n 15 wt % of PET component.
