Optical, electrooptical, and dielectric properties of a mesogenic poly
mer of combined structure were examined in dilute solutions and a nema
tic phase by means of flow birefringence, equilibrium electrical biref
ringence, and orientational elastic deformations in electric fields. T
he effect of the length of the flexible spacers in the main chain on t
he electrooptical and dielectric characteristics of solutions and a ne
matic phase of the studied polymer is discussed. The results obtained
are compared with those reported previously for the polymers of simila
r structure.
