Styren, a volatile organic compound (VOC) can be reduced by adsorption
. The use of activated carbons fibers requires prior study of the equi
librium and kinetics of the adsorption process. Thus, firstly, equilib
rium models were used to determine the adsorption capacity of the test
ed fibers. This showed up the performance of the tissue and enabled an
approach to the nature of interactions. Later, a study was carried ou
t, of the influence of the stirring and the concentration on the two s
teps of the adsorption, external diffusion (k(f)) and superficial diff
usion (D-s). A kinetic model based on the superficial diffusion (D-s)
was proposed. At high rate of stirring and concentration, the superfic
ial diffusion are predominent and the model corresponds to the result
of the experiments.
