Abstract
In support of the essential health and safety requirements of the mach inery directive concerning the reduction and assessment of dust and ga s emissions from machines, CEN TC 114 WG 15 was given the task of prep aring B1 standards. The first standard EN 626 Part 1 ''Principles for machinery manufacturers'' was published in 1994. Part 2 describes the ''Methodology leading to verification procedures''. Practicable testin g methods for the assessment of emissions of airborne hazardous substa nces from machines are defined in the B standard series EN 1093. For t he assessment the parameters emission rate, concentration, capture deg ree, separation degree and decontamination index are used. Finally, we indicate that first machine safety standards exist, so-called C stand ards, for dust measurements on electrical tools, for testing dust remo ving machines, welding fume separators and chips and dust extraction s ystems for woodworking machines; some include so-called ''achievable v alues'' based on the technical state of the art of these machines.
