Abstract
The title compound 1 was unexpectedly synthesized by the reaction of C lTi(i-PrNCH2CH2)(3)N and excess NaNH2 in THF. A single-crystal X-ray d iffraction study of 1 revealed that two azatitanatrane units and a sod ium atom are bridged by a T-shaped nitrido ligand, the first such stru cture unsupported by a metal-metal bond. Structural evidence is presen ted for substantial pi bonding in the TiN(nitrido)Ti bridging linkages that at least partially accounts for the unexpectedly long sodium-nit rido distance.
