The XeF(B <-- X) excitation spectrum is determined experimentally over
the range 28000-30000 cm(-1) by measuring laser induced fluorescence
from Xe2F triatomic excimer molecules, Because of the linearity of thi
s technique for a broad range of intensity, the opportunity to analyze
spectral band intensities quantitatively is achieved. The absorption
spectrum simulated in the same region demonstrates a satisfactory agre
ement between experimental and theoretical spectra both in relative in
tensities and shapes of spectral bands. The cross sections of photoabs
orption and photoassociation into the XeF(B) state are calculated, the
maximal values amounting to 1.3 x 10(-16) cm(2) and 3.3 x 10(-39) cm(
5), respectively.
