Bmh. Lange et K. Gull, STRUCTURE AND FUNCTION OF THE CENTRIOLE IN ANIMAL-CELLS - PROGRESS AND QUESTIONS, Trends in cell biology, 6(9), 1996, pp. 348-352
The centriole is well-recognized, yet poorly understood organelle pres
ent in many eukaryotic cells. Despite excellent electron-microscopic d
escriptions of its basic triplet microtubule structure, almost nothing
is known of its specific molecular components. Here, Bodo Lange and K
eith Gull survey centriole structure, duplication and maturation withi
n the cell cycle and focus attention on the possible roles and functio
n of centrioles as components of the centrosome in animal cells.
