We discuss the possibility of obtaining a fluorescence signal dependin
g nonlinearly on the excitation intensity by inhibiting the fluorescen
ce energy transfer in a conjugate-pair dye molecule and its applicatio
n in scanning microscopy. The dynamical behaviour of the conjugate dye
molecule and the nonlinear behaviour of the fluorescence intensity is
analysed. The benefits for scanning fluorescence microscopy are outli
ned.
