Abstract
The design of cellular and microcellular networks is being influenced or changed by the continuous growth in number of subscribers and traff ic volume in mobile telecommunications. The authors discuss some impor tant aspects of next-generation wireless networks with their implicati ons for teletraffic. Simple models for homogeneous systems, to serve a s approximate solutions, are presented. The authors address some issue s relevant to heterogeneous systems and briefly discuss typical approa ches when possible. The reader is presented with a number of reference s to present and past work in the area.
