Abstract
This article is a response to the report of the Task Force on Promotio n and Dissemination of Psychological Procedures of the Division of cli nical Psychology of the American Psychological Association (1995), The conclusions and recommendations of the task force concerning the ''va lidated'' therapies for both training and practice appear premature. I n particular, they overlook possible limitations in existing research, the importance of client and therapist variability, the role of commo n factors in psychotherapy, and the need to adapt therapeutic procedur es for the problems of the individual client or patient.
