The progression of hip dysplasia was investigated in 116 military work
ing dogs. Medical records were reviewed for any clinical history of hi
nd-limb lameness, Pelvic radiographs were studied for evidence and deg
ree of hip dysplasia, degenerative joint disease, or both, The number
of months each dog worked was determined, Each dog's age at terminatio
n from service and cause of death (or euthanasia) were recorded. The m
ean months of work for normal and dysplastic dogs were evaluated using
the Student's t-test, No significant difference was found in the tota
l number of months worked between normal and dysplastic dogs (p greate
r than 0.05).
