In this work, the reaction of the 16-electron species [Rh(eta(3)-C8H13
)(eta(5)-C(2)B(9)H(9)Me(2))] with PPh(3) was investigated and the prod
uct, xo-nido-Rh(PPh(3))(2)(eta(5)-C(2)B(9)H(10)Me(2))], which is in an
equilibrium with the close analogue was characterized by P-31 {H-1},
H-1, C-13 and B-11 NMR spectroscopy. A mechanism for the complex forma
tion is suggested which is related to,the previously reported reaction
s between the 16-electron complex and PR(3) (R = Me and Et) ligands.
