HERITABILITIES OF AND CORRELATIONS AMONG PART AND ANNUAL TRAITS IN PURE-LINE AND CROSS-LINE WHITE LEGHORNS

Genetic analysis of pure-and strain-cross pullets of White Leghorns in dicated higher heritability in crosses than in pures for 72-weeks body weight egg number of 72-weeks and egg weight at 36-38 weeks of age. T he estimates were also slightly higher in crosses for egg number to 40 -weeks and egg weight at 68-70 weeks of age. The genetic correlations of body weight with egg number and egg weight, and between part-and an nual-egg production were stronger in crosses than in pures. However, t he genetic correlations of egg number with egg weight varied inconsist ently between puns and crosses.
