Rlj. Kwint et Kjm. Kramer, A NEW SENSITIVE TRACER FOR THE DETERMINATION OF ZOOPLANKTON GRAZING ACTIVITY, Journal of plankton research, 18(8), 1996, pp. 1513-1518
A new tracer compound is presented for determining zooplankton grazing
activity. The gut content in zooplankton is measured as beta-dimethyl
sulphoniopropionate (DMSP), which can be measured even in individual c
opepods. Species specific DMSP/Chl-a ratios allow applications in, for
example, prey selectivity studies.
