Abstract
The enantioselective synthesis of (-)-(5S, 7R)-Tarchonanthuslactone, a substituted delta-lactone isolated from a compositae, is described. T he main feature of this short synthesis is the stereoselective reducti on of a beta,delta-diketosulfoxide affording in 6 steps the chiral cen tral part of the molecule, a syn-1,3-diol unit.
