We report the reading performance of an acquired dyslexic and dysgraph
ic whose impaired spelling had previously been shown to result from da
mage to the graphemic buffer. The analysis of this patient's errors in
reading pseudowords indicates that this deficit may also be largely a
ttributable to damage to a common graphemic buffer which is used both
in reading and spelling words and pseudowords. The crucial evidence in
favour of this hypothesis is the substantial presence of letter trans
position errors in reading and spelling.
