X-RAY PHOTOEMISSION AND X-RAY-EMISSION SPECTRA IN RARE-EARTH TRIFLUORIDES

3d X-ray photoemission, valence band X-ray photoemission and 5p --> 3d X-ray emission spectra of PrF3 and NdF3 are investigated. The charge transfer energy, the effective hybridization and Coulomb interactions are evaluated by the theoretical analysis of these spectra. It is show n that al the experimental results are well reproduced by the theoreti cal calculation with a set of parameter values for each compound. It i s found that parameter values of the charge transfer energy and effect ive hybridization systematically decrease in going from LaF3 to NdF3.
