Structures of glasses containing (20-30) mol% CeO2-(16-23) mol% Al2O3-
(47-64) mol% SiO2 prepared at 1550 degrees C for 3 h in an atmosphere
of N-2 have been investigated via the analyses of FT-IR and Al-27 MAS-
NMR spectroscopy. Results show that cerium ions act primarily as the g
lass modifiers. The number of NBO/T on average in the structures of CA
S glasses increases with increasing ceria content. The aluminum ions i
n the structures of CAS glasses exist in both Al(6) and Al(4) coordina
tion, and the fraction of Al(6) is more than Al(4).
