R. Klein et al., PLASMA FOLLISTATIN CONCENTRATIONS INCREASE FOLLOWING LIPOPOLYSACCHARIDE ADMINISTRATION IN SHEEP, Clinical and experimental pharmacology and physiology, 23(8), 1996, pp. 754-755
1. The effect of inflammation induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) inje
ction on plasma follistatin (FS) concentrations was investigated. 2. P
lasma FS and tumour necrosis factor-alpha concentrations increase foll
owing LPS administration in ewes. 3. The rise in FS is similar, but mo
re sustained, to that reviously observed after surgery. 4. These resul
ts indicate a possible functional link between FS, inflammation and th
e acute-phase response.
