The results of measuring the length and decay coefficient of capillary
waves for both molecular and micellar solutions of decylpiridinium br
omide (DPB) are presented. On the basis of the dispersion equation for
capillary waves and the theory of the dynamic surface properties for
concentrations below the CMC, the parameters of the adsorption process
were determined; these parameters were used further for the calculati
on of the decay coefficient of micellar solutions. The use of characte
ristic times of the slow phase of the micellization process tau2 as th
e sole adjusting parameter allowed satisfactory agreement between the
calculated and experimental data for concentrations higher than CMC to
be achieved. The observed concentration dependence for tau2 has a pat
tern typical of ionic surfactants, whereas tau2 values agree well with
published data obtained by an alternative method.
